The Kent-based Seattle Thunderbirds junior hockey team acquired defenseman Braeden Laroque Thursday from the Edmonton Oil Kings for a 2012 Bantam Draft pick.

The Kent-based Seattle Thunderbirds junior hockey team acquired defenseman Braeden Laroque Thursday from the Edmonton Oil Kings for a 2012 Bantam Draft pick.

Laroque, 19, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is entering his third season in the Western Hockey League. He appeared in 54 games last year with the Oil Kings and had two goals and four assists for six points with 32 penalty minutes.

Laroque is a left-handed defenseman who is 6 feet 1 and 198 pounds. He was drafted by the Oil Kings in the fifth round, 90th overall, of the 2007 Bantam Draft.

The T-Birds (0-1-0-0) play at the Portland Winterhawks Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Rose Garden. They play the Prince Albert Raiders at 7:35 p.m. Oct. 7 at the ShoWare Center.
