Greg Scott had two goals and an assist Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 6,049 at ShoWare Center to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 3-1 win over the Portland Winter Hawks.

Both teams had nine shots on goal in a scoreless first period.

Portland (12-31-1-2) took a 1-0 lead at 5:44 of the second period on a goal by Max Brandl. Travis Bobbee and Tayler Jordan had the assists.

Seattle (21-24-1-3) tied the game 1-1 at 11:03 of the second with a power-play goal. Prab Rai sent the puck from the left corner to Thomas Hickey at the left point. Hickey crossed the puck to Greg Scott who skated to the top of the right circle. Scott put a slap shot on goal that beat Portland goalie Kurtis Mucha over the left shoulder.

Scott gave the T-Birds a 2-1 lead 15:47 of the second with an unassisted power-play goal. Scott got to a loose puck along the boards at the left point. He carried the puck on his backhand in on Mucha on a partial breakaway. Scott brought the puck to his forehand and put a quick snap shot on goal from the bottom of the left circle. Mucha made the save but the puck lay just in front of the goalie. Scott followed up his shot and poked the puck up and over the Portland goalie and into the back of the net.

The T-Birds outshot the Winter Hawks 17-8 in the second period and led 26-17 in total shots after two periods.

Jim O’Brien added an empty-net goal at 19:39 of the third period to ice the game for the T-Birds. Scott had an assist on the goal to give him a three-point night.

The Winter Hawks outshot the T-Birds 9-8 in the third period but the T-Birds finished the game with a 34-26 advantage in total shots.

Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made 25 saves on 26 shots to improve his record to 11-9-1-2.

Mucha stopped 31 of 33 shots and his record is now 9-21-1-2.

The T-Birds next play Tuesday, January 27, when they face the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.
