The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3 Friday night at Comcast Arena in Everett in the season opening game for both teams.

The T-Birds took a 1-0 lead at the 2:50 mark of the first period on a goal by Marcel Noebels. The opening score was set up by center Luke Lockhart who put a big check on the Silvertips puck carrier in the right circle of the Everett zone. Lockhart’s hit dislodged the puck to Noebels in the right circle. Noebels snapped a quick wrist that beat Everett goalie Kent Simpson over the glove.

Seattle went in front 2-0 on a power-play goal by Lockhart at 13:54 of the first. Defenseman Dave Sutter had the puck at the right point. He centered the puck to Brenden Dillon at center ice just inside the blue. Dillon faked a slap shot and sent the puck to Charles Wells at the left point. Wells quickly sent the puck low to Lockhart on top of the crease. Lockhart put a shot on goal that Simpson stopped but the puck laid in the crease at the right post. Lockhart followed his shot and pounded the puck into the net

Everett got on the board at 14:17 of the first on a goal by Campbell Elynuik. Ryan Murray had the only assist on the goal.

Both teams had eight shots on goal in the first period.

The Silvertips tied the game 2-2 at 14:13 of the second period on a power-play goal by Kellan Tochkin. Chad Suer and Murray had the assists.

The T-Birds went back in front 3-2 on a power-play goal by Burke Gallimore at 16:31 of the second. Connor Sanvido brought the puck off the left boards and put a shot on goal with Travis Toomey in front of Simpson. Toomey redirected Sanvido’s shot between his legs to Gallimore at the right post. Simpson went down on Sanvido’s shot and Gallimore had a wide open net to shoot at and buried a backhand.

Everett outshot Seattle 18-15 in the second period and led 18-15 in shots after two periods.

Everett tied the game 3-3 at 1:56 of the third period on a goal by Tyler Maxwell. Murray and Chad Suer had the assists.

The Silvertips took a 4-3 lead with 38 second left in the game on a goal by Maxwell. Landon Ferraro had the only assist on the goal.

Everett outshot Seattle 10-8 in the third period and 28-23 in the game.

Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 24 of 28 shots and his record is now 0-1-0-0.

Simpson made 20 saves on 23 shots and his record is 1-0-0-0.
