The Seattle Thunderbirds came back from a two-goal deficit in the third period to beat the Chilliwack Bruins 4-3 in a shootout Feb. 20 at the ShoWare Center.

Ryan Howse was the first shooter in the shootout. He came down on Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard and beat the net minder with a quick move to the right. Burke Gallimore was Seattle’s first shooter and he beat Chilliwack goalie Lucas Gore five-hole.

Kevin Sunder was the second Bruins shooter. Pickard stopped him with a quick poke check. Colin Jacobs was the T-Birds second shooter. Jacobs, a right hand shot, came down on Gore, faked left, forcing Gore down and then he brought the puck back right and slide it into an empty net.

Roman Horak was the Bruins last shooter. He came down on Pickard and made a move to his left and his shot hit the left post and gave the T-Birds the win.

Chilliwack scored the game’s first goal at 4:24 of the first period. Ryan Howse scored his 43rd of the season, assisted by Dylen McKinlay and Robin Soudek.

After one period, the T-Birds outshot Bruins 22-13 but Chilliwack led 1-0.

The T-Birds evened the score 1-1 on a Travis Toomey power-play goal at 4:57 of the second period. Brendan Rouse fed Toomey 10 feet in front of the Bruins net and Toomey put a wrist shot top shelf. Brenden Dillon also assisted on the play.

Soudek scored an unassisted goal for the Bruins at 13:48 of the second period to give his team the 2-1 lead.

Howse extended the Bruins lead to 3-1 on a goal assisted by Kevin Sundher at 18:01 of the second period.

Seattle outshot Chilliwack 16-10 during the second period and held a 38-23 overall shot advantage through 40 minutes of play.

Seattle cut Chilliwack’s lead to 3-2 after Mitch Elliot’s turnaround shot found its way to the back of the net. Jacob Doty carried the puck up the ice on the right side. Doty put a shot on goal that Gore stopped but the puck laid in the crease. Tyler Alos took a swing at the puck with Elliot on top of the crease and it rebounded off of Gore to the goalie’s right. Elliot, with his back to the net, stretched to reach the puck and then slid it past Gore.

Jacobs sent the 5,319 in attendance at the ShoWare Center into a frenzy when he buried the puck in the back of the net to make it 3-3 at 18:12 of the third period. Toomey, standing in front of the Bruins net, deflected a Brenden Dillon left point shot off of Gore’s left pad. The puck rebounded cleanly to Jacobs in the right circle and he had an open net to shoot at. It was the 19th goal of the year for Jacobs.

In the third period, Seattle outshot Chilliwack 25-11. The T-Birds outshot the Bruins 63-34 in regulation.

In a scoreless overtime period Chilliwack outshot Seattle 6-4. The T-Birds outshot the Bruins 67-40 in the game.

Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard (21-27-3-5) faced 40 shots and made 37 saves to earn his 21st victory of the season.

Chilliwack goalie Lucas Gore (22-21-2-3) made 64 saves on 67 shots.
