Seattle Thunderbirds defenseman Shea Theodore has been selected as one of 23 players to represent Canada at the U-18 World Championships in Sochi, Russia, April 18-28.

Theodore took part in the Team Canada training camp at the MasterCard Centre in Toronto, Ontario, from April 6-10. Theodore had an assist in Team Canada’s 5-4 shootout win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday in a pre-tournament exhibition game in Sochi.

Team Canada opens the tournament Thursday against Slovakia. It also will take on Germany, Switzerland and Sweden in Group B preliminary round play. Group A teams are the United States, Latvia, Finland, Russia and the Czech Republic.

Theodore was a member of gold medal-winning Team Canada at the 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia last summer. He is one of seven players from the Western Hockey League named to the Team Canada tournament roster.

Theodore just completed his second season with the T-Birds. He registered 50 points on 19 goals and 31 assists with 32 penalty minutes.
