The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-1 Friday night in a preseason game at the Xfinity Arena at Everett.
The T-Birds close out the preseason schedule with the second game of a home-and-home series against the Silvertips at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the ShoWare Center. Single game tickets for the home preseason game are currently on sale on the T-Birds website.
Everett (4-2-0-0) took a 1-0 lead at 3:47 of the first period when Brayden Low put back a rebound of a Tyler Sandhu shot.
Seattle outshot Everett 11-7 in the first period.
The Silvertips went in front 2-0 at 6:08 of the second period. Kohl Bauml redirected a pass from Low over Seattle goalie Taran Kozun’s right shoulder. Sandhu had the second assist.
Everett extended the lead to 3-0 at 14:46 of the second on a power-play goal from Carson Stadnyk. Stadnyk beat Kozun from a sharp angle on an assist from Ivan Nikolishin.
Danny Mumaugh replaced Kozun in net for Seattle after the third Everett goal. Kozun stopped nine of 12 shots he faced.
Seattle (3-3-0-0) cut the lead to 3-1 with a power-play goal with two minutes left in the second period. Adam Henry brought the puck out from behind the Seattle net and passed the puck to Mathew Barzal just inside the blue line. Barzal weaved up the right side of the ice skating through the Everett defense. From the right circle he crossed the puck to Ryan Gropp all alone in the slot. Gropp beat Everett goalie Carter Hart through the legs for the goal.
Seattle led 20-13 in shots after two periods by outshooting Everett 9-6 in the period.
Zane Jones scored at 4:26 of the third to get Everett’s fourth goal. Remi Laurencelle had the only assist.
Seattle outshot Everett 10-7 in the third period and 30-20 in the game.
Mumaugh made seven saves on eight shots in 25 minutes of action.
Hart stopped 29 of 30 shots to get the win.
