West Central District baseball tournament preview

Breakdown and analysis for the first round of the playoffs.

The West Central District Tournament opening round takes place on May 13 (after press time). Here is a glance at all of the local matchups to start the postseason.

• (15) Federal Way 9-9 @ (10) Silas 12-8

Last Meeting: N/A

Skinny: Federal Way this year will go as far as Orlando Young carries them. The senior fire baller has been as advertised this season and has taken on a leadership role for Federal Way and gotten his team to the postseason.

Silas on the other hand has been solid for the most part of the 2025 season. The Rams haven’t lost three in a row and have gone on two separate three game winning streaks. If Young throws game one, Federal Way should have a good chance to win.

• (14) Bellarmine 9-9 @ (11) Thomas Jefferson 11-8

Last Meeting: N/A

Skinny: The Thomas Jefferson Raiders had their world collapse on them as well as the Federal Way community as their Head Coach Joe Townsend passed away on April 29 this year.

In the best way possible the Raiders have fought tooth and nail through adversity to end the year on a five game winning streak, their longest since 2016. Townsend would be incredibly proud of his group this season.

• (16) Mountain View 10-12 @ (9) Kentlake 13-8

Last Meeting: N/A

Skinny: The Falcons might have been the favorites to win the NPSL this season but came away with a third place finish this season. Kentlake is dangerous with the duo of Christopher Moore and his brother Lincoln, they pose a dangerous combo in the box.

Devin Tep can give any line up problems and the Falcons are a dark horse to make a run to the state tournament.

• (7) Peninsula 13-7 @ (2) Decatur 19-2

Last Meeting: April 17, 2025, Decatur def. Peninsula 10-3

Skinny: League champs for the first time since 2014 and the Gators have looked the part. 8.4 runs per game on offense and the pitching staff has allowed just 1.9 runs per game.

The Gators did fall to Kentridge 8-4, in their final game of the season with their entire starting nine and top two pitchers throwing in the contest. But a win for the Gators over Peninsula will guarantee a state tournament appearance for the first time since 2015 for Skipper Chris Fox.

• (13) Yelm 11-10 @ (12) Auburn Riverside 12-9

Last Meeting: N/A

Skinny: Auburn Riverside got into the playoffs relatively drama free as they swept the Kentwood Conquerors to guarantee their advance. The Ravens have a duo of extremely solid starters in Cameron Bain and Kaeden Morgan.

The teams will go as far as the lineup will take it. The starting pitching is good enough to stay in every game, but can the offense generate enough runs to win games? Over the last three games of the season the Ravens have averaged 7 runs a game, so there is that.

• (16) South Kitsap 9-13 @ (9) Kentridge 13-6

Last Meeting: May 24, 2014, South Kitsap def. Kentridge 2-1

Skinny: Kentridge’s end of the seasons is very interesting. A team that swept Tahoma, split with Auburn Riverside, got swept by Mount Rainier and beat a Decatur side that had lost just one game all season.

Pitching is the key, when the Chargers hold opponents to under four runs this season they are 10-1. When teams score four runs or more, the Chargers are 4-4 this season. Which Kentridge team will show up? The team that was swept by Mount Rainier to end the league season? Or the team that beat Decatur?
