BASEBALL

GRAND SLAM CAMPS

These camps are for players ages 6-12, and are staffed by local high school coaches and current college players who teach fundamentals in a fun, upbeat environment. Camps are scheduled for July 7-10 at Daffodil Park in Sumner, July 14-17 at Petrovitsky Park in Renton, and July 21-24 at South County Ballfield Park in Federal Way. The cost is $99. RIPS BASEBALL CAMPS

BASKETBALL

REc PLAYERS NEEDED

Mature recreational players are needed for a group that gathers on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday basis at noon in the Kent area. It’s strictly for fun and exercise. More information: e-mail to kknapp@rei.com.

4SLAM ARENA TOURNAMENT

This tournament is open to men and women of all ages. It is scheduled for June 27-29 at the South Sound Athletics gym, 2450 S. 142nd St. in SeaTac. This modified full-court game is 4-on-4 with 8-foot hoops for junior and women, 9-foot hoops for men, 2-, 3- and 4-point lines, points for fouls, a continuous clock, a no-dribble zone, no free throws, and four points for dunks. KENTLAKE BOYS HOOP CAMP

This camp for players who will be entering grades 2-9 is scheduled for June 24-27 at Kentlake High School, 21401 S.E. 300th St. It will be directed by Kentlake coaches Ron Charrier and Jeff Martin. The cost is $100 thereafter, and includes a camp T-shirt and basketball. In addition to individual and group instruction, campers will participate in 5-on-5 games, hot-shot competition, free throw contests and other activities. KENTLAKE GIRLS CAMP

WTA HIGH SCHOOL TEAM CAMP

BOATING

KENT DRAGON BOAT ASSN.

The association is inviting anyone interested in paddling a 48-foot dragon boat to Lake Meridian in Kent on Saturdays (before 8 a.m.) and Tuesdays (6 p.m.) through mid October. All equipment is provided, and no experience is needed. Teams meet at the Lake Meridian boat dock. More information: Ted Childs at (253) 630-3657.

GOFAST SPEED CAMP

These four-day camps take place at Kentridge High School, and are open to boys and girls ages 10-18 in all sports. The focus will be on developing speed, agility, quickness, running technique, injury prevention, and linear and lateral movement. FASTPITCH

These camps, one for ages 7-11, and one for ages 12-15, are scheduled for July 14-17 at Petrovitsky Park in Renton, and July 21-24 at South County Ballfield Park in Federal Way. They will be directed by Pacific Lutheran University pitching coach Lance Glasoe and a staff of current college players The focus will be on fundamentals (pitching, hitting, slapping, fielding, etc.) in a fun, upbeat environment. PUGET SOUND CRAB CLINIC

This free clinic is scheduled for Wednesday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Auburn Sports & Marine, 810 Auburn Way N. Guest speaker Vern Modes will provide information for the beginner or advanced crabber. Door prizes and refreshments will be provided. More information: (253) 833-1440.

FOOTBALL

KARNEY’S 44 KIDS CAMP

This one-day non-contact camp for boys and girls ages 7-14 is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at French Field on the Kent-Meridian High School campus. The cost is $75 per camper, and includes lunch, water and a camp T-shirt. Campers should wear T-shirts and shorts, and tennis shoes or rubber cleats only. No previous football experience is required. Instructors will be a group of NFL players, including former Kentwood High star and current New Orleans Saints fullback Mike Karney, as well as local high school and junior high coaches. PUGET SOUND CAMP

This camp is for players who will be entering grades 4-9 in the fall. It is scheduled for June 30-July 3 at French Field. It is a non-contact camp and runs from 9 a.m.-noon each day. It will be directed by Kentridge High head coach Marty Osborn, and coaches from Kentridge and other area high schools and junior highs, as well as current Kentridge seniors and former players now in college. GOLF

KENT CHAMBER GOLF CLASSIC

The 30th annual edition of this tournament is scheduled for Monday, July 14, at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn. Play goes from noon-9 p.m. Players will be encouraged to dress up in the colors of their favorite college team (within Washington National’s dress code.) SPONSORS are desired. SOCCER

BRITISH SOCCER CAMP

This camp for players ages 4-16 is scheduled for July 21-25 at Lea Hill Elementary School, 30908 124th Ave. S.E. in Auburn. Sessions will include mini-soccer for ages 4-5 from 9-10:30 a.m. and 10:40 a.m.-12:10 p.m., with a cost of $77 for either session; half-day sessions for ages 6-16 from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m., with a cost of $99 for either session, and a full-day session for ages 10-16 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at a cost of $150. KENTRIDGE SUMMER TEAM

This program is for boys and girls ages 8-18 of all ability levels from beginners to advanced. The program goes from June 30-July 28 and will be part of the Auburn Valley Summer Tennis League. It will be coached by Kentridge High state tournament veteran Zack AhYat and his assistants. Individual lessons also are available.
