Sales tax hike is the result of light rail

Terry Burlison (May 23 letter to the editor) needs to be made aware that we owe our thanks to the Regional Transit Authority for the April 1 sales-tax increase, not the City of Kent.

Information from the Department of Revenue states that the tax increase will be used to expand and coordinate light-rail, commuter-rail, and express bus service, and improve access to transit facilities.

Sorry to say, but Terry will also be paying 9.5 percent in Renton.
