A large work force from Comcast converged to help spruce up Northwest Harvest on Saturday.

About 250 volunteers – and their families – from Comcast helped beautify inside and outside of Kent’s main food distribution center, 22220 68th Ave. S.

Comcast’s Auburn office participated at the Kent warehouse as part of the company’s 12th Comcast Cares Day. The event is Comcast and NBCUniversal’s signature day of service and one of the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts.

“The grounds and awning look great,” said Deborah Squires, director of community engagement for Northwest Harvest. “We have better light inside the warehouse. There are no more birds flying into the warehouse since (the volunteers) removed the tree, and there are thousands of pounds of life-sustaining and nutritious food headed out the door on its way to food banks and hungry people – all thanks to (all the volunteers.”

Comcast’s national day of service included more than 70,000 people volunteering at 700 projects in the United States and abroad. There were 13 sites and 2,000 volunteers at work in Washington state.
