Ex-inmate threatens Kent store clerk for denying him free hot dog | Police Blotter

A 46-year-old man demanded a free hot dog from a Kent 7-Eleven store for recently getting out of prison and later threatened to slit a clerk’s throat for refusing to give him food.
Officers arrested the man for investigation of harassment following the incident at 5:01 a.m. on March 26 in the 700 block of Washington Avenue North, according to the police report. The man denied to officers that he had threatened the employee.
The man initially walked into the store and demanded a free hot dog. He showed the clerk a state Department of Corrections ID and said he deserved free food. He stepped aside for a few minutes but then pushed his way back into line and demanded to know a bus schedule. The clerk said she didn’t know the schedule. He then reportedly said he would slit her throat. He exited the store after another clerk called 911.
Police found the man at a bus stop across the street from the store.
Man smuggles drugs into jail
Officers arrested a man on March 26 at the city jail, 1230 Central Ave. S., for investigation of possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia after he reportedly smuggled drugs into the jail by cramming an envelope up his butt that contained the items.
A corrections officer told police he stepped into a holding a cell to move the man to another cell when an envelope from the man’s pants to the floor, according to the police report. The envelope contained pills and a hypodermic needle.
The man told police he smuggled the pills into the jail because he didn’t want to get sick during detoxing. He told police he had “cheeked” the items into jail. The officer noted in his report that “cheeked” appears to mean he inserted them into his rectum.
Man stabs caregiver
Police arrested a man at an adult care home for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly stabbed a caregiver in the chest at about 8:55 a.m. on March 25 in the 2100 block of South 248th Street.
The caregiver told officers that he tried to give the man his medication at the assisted living home when the man grabbed the whole box of pills, according to the police report. When the worker tried to get the pills back, the man swung at him with a knife in his hand, cutting the employee’s shirt and scratching his chest.
Employees managed to get the knife away from the man. The man takes medication for depression and bipolar disorder. The man didn’t talk to police about the incident.
Man drives 83 mph in 40 mph zone
An officer arrested a man for investigation of reckless driving after he allegedly drove 83 mph in a 40 mph zone at about 4:47 p.m. on March 25 in the 11400 block of Southeast 274th Way.
The officer was checking the speed of vehicles in the area when he saw a Chevrolet Suburban speeding along the road where it turns from 116th Avenue Southeast to Southeast 274th Way, according to the police report.
The officer caught up to the man in traffic farther down the road and pulled him over. The man admitted to the officer he was in a hurry but didn’t indicate where he was going in such a rush.
Woman attacks hotel clerk
Police arrested a woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault after she allegedly grabbed and scratched a hotel clerk at about 10:50 p.m. on March 28 at the Hawthorne Suites, 6329 S. 212th St.
The clerk went outside to investigate a report by a hotel guest about an argument in the parking lot between a man and a woman, according to the police report. The clerk saw the couple fighting and got her phone out to to call 911. The woman then came after the clerk and tried to knock the phone out of her hand. The two women ended up fighting.
A witness said the woman had left a party at a hotel suite to talk to her ex-boyfriend in the parking lot. The woman in the fight with the clerk told officers, “I didn’t do nothing.”
