Kent Schools earn Washington Achievement Awards

Eight elementary schools in the Kent School District were named 2015 Washington Achievement Award recipients by the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The Washington Achievement Award recognizes schools for overall excellence and special recognition in language arts, math, science, graduation rate, improvement and closing achievement gaps. Schools are selected based on their statewide assessment data for the three previous years and must meet the 95 percent participation rate on state tests to be eligible.

Carriage Crest and Grass Lake received the English Language Arts Growth Award. Crestwood, Glenridge and Lake Youngs were awarded the English Language Acquisition Award, and Covington Elementary was the recipient of the Math Growth Award. Martin Sortun earned the Overall Excellence Award, High Progress Award, English Language Arts Growth Award and Math Growth Award, while Sunrise received the High Progress Award.
