Skyline defused a Kentwood rally to capture its first 4A state baseball title with a 2-1 victory over the Conquerors at Pasco’s Gesa Stadium on Saturday night.
Conner Knutson shut the door on the Conquerors in the final two innings. Knutson relieved Jack Rooney, who allowed four hits and a run in five innings of work.
The Conquerors (24-8) were seeking their third state title in six years.
Ben Wadowski drove in Kentwood’s tying run in the fourth inning for Kentwood. Isaac Hegamin, Jacob McCord and Shane McGuire each had a hit.
Wadowski allowed four hits and struck out five in 4 1/3 innings.
In Friday’s semifinal, Kentwood routed Woodinville 9-0 behind Jordan Jones’ one-hit, complete-game gem. Jones struck out four.
Garrett Stewart went for 3-for-4, with two doubles and three RBIs. Daniel Tanaka drove in two runs and scored three runs. McGuire tripled, and Trenton Harris went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
