Excel Public Charter School in Kent will host an open house from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5.

The event gives current and prospective students and their families a chance to check out the school, which is housed in New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, 19300 108th Ave. SE; meet teachers and staff; and ask questions about the school.

The 2016-2017 school year begins Monday, Aug. 22.

Excel, which opened last August to sixth- and seventh-graders, is a non-selective, public school that is free to students in Washington state. This year the school will educate eighth-grade students, with plans to add a grade each year to serve students in sixth to 12th grade.
