The Pittsburgh Pirates traded minor league catcher Reese McGuire, a 2013 Kentwood High graduate, on Monday to the Toronto Blue Jays.

McGuire, 21, is expected to play for Toronto’s Double-A affiliate in New Hampshire, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He has spent this season at Double-A Altoona (Pa.), where he batted .259 with 16 doubles, one home run, 37 RBI and four stolen bases.

McGuire was part of a deal that sent major league pitcher Francisco Liriano and minor league outfielder Harold Ramirez to Toronto for major league pitcher Drew Hutchison.

The Pirates drafted McGuire, who bats left and throws right, with the 14th overall pick in the 2013 draft. He signed out of high school for $2.3 million.
