Rockets blast past T-Birds | WHL

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-1 in a Western Hockey League game Saturday night at the ShoWare Center.

Kelowna goalie Michael Herringer made 36 saves on 37 shots to get the win.

The Rockets took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Kyle Topping at 5:18 of the second period. Nolan Foote and Kole Lind had assists.

Kelowna made it a 2-0 lead at 10:11 of the second on a goal from Lind. Jordan Borstmayer and Lucas Johansen were credited with the assists.

In the third period Topping scored at 5:52 of the period followed by Jack Cowell at 9:19. Topping scored at 15:26 of the period to complete the hat trick.

Ian Briscoe scored his first career goal with 20 seconds left in the third period to spoil Herringer’s shutout. Elijah Brown had the only assist.

The T-Birds outshot the Rockets 12-5 in the third period and 37-30 in the game.

Seattle goalie Rylan Toth made 25 saves on 30 shots.

On the road

The T-Birds hit the road for six games in the East Division starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Swift Current Broncos. The play the Regina Pats, Saskatoon Blades, Prince Albert Raiders, Brandon Wheat Kings and Moose Jaw Warriors on the trip. Their next home game is 7:35 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, against the Calgary Hitmen.
