Kent’s raceboat brothers – Ryan Gowin and Daniel Korpe – came away with national honors from their solid 2016 performances on the water.
Gowin, a sophomore at Kent-Meridian High School, was recently inducted into the American Power Boat Association Hall of Champions, boat racing’s highest honor, and earned the Driver of the Year Award for 2016. Gowin, a world record-holder, captured the 1 class K-pro Hydro national high point championship and took the national high point title in AX runabout.
Gowin’s older brother, Daniel Korpe, a 2014 K-M graduate, claimed the national championship in D-stock hydro and OSY 400. He was second nationally in OPC tunnelboats.
Class hydroplane and runabout speeds range from 60 to 125 mph.
The brothers, who race out of Region 10 of the Seattle Outboard Association, plan to compete at Seafair this summer.
