Drivers along South 272nd Street near the Kent/Federal Way city borders will face lane closures over the next few weeks between Interstate 5 and South Star Lake Road.

Sound Transit’s contractor will place barriers along South 272nd Street for utility work related to Link light rail construction. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions throughout the work area.

Work will start on about Aug. 6 and continue for about four weeks, according to Sound Transit. The majority of the work will occur from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Excavator and other heavy equipment will be used.

Sound Transit is extending light rail 7.8 miles from SeaTac to Federal Way. Construction is expected to be done in 2024.
