Hit-and-run driver kills pedestrian in Kent

A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a 51-year-old Kent man in a crosswalk early Saturday morning, Oct. 30 near Central Avenue North and South 228th Street.

Officers responded at about 4:30 a.m. and found the man unconscious and unresponsive, according to Kent Police. Life-saving efforts by officers and Puget Sound Fire personnel were unsuccessful and the man died at the scene.

Witnesses told police that the man was in a clearly marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle. Witnesses said the driver may have run a red light.

Officers located a vehicle a short distance from the collision that is believed to be the one that struck the man, according to police. The driver had fled the scene.

Police are following up leads and evidence into what they are investigating as a vehicular homicide.
