Soos Creek Botanical Garden & Heritage Center celebrates “Experience Historical Kent”

The public is invited to Soos Creek Botanical Garden and Heritage Center on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as its celebrates Experience Historical Kent with displays, music, an art walk and other activities.
Visit the Heritage Center and see a horse buggy used in the late 1800s. View photos and maps of the Upper Soos Creek Plateau from 1890 to 1940. See antiques used by the pioneers at home and work.
Gary Stroutsos returns this year to play Native American flute music. The Old Time Fiddlers, Phil and Vivian Williams, are back with their toe-tapping fiddle and banjo music, interspersed with stories and history dating back to the mid 1800s. Michael C. Evans will tell traditional Native American tales and Nancy Simpson will demonstrate the art of traditional basket weaving. Harry Berryman, who has lived in the area since 1942, will host a question-and-answer session about life on the Upper Soos Creek Plateau.
Enjoy painters, potters and jewelry artisans, displaying and selling their work at the garden’s art walk.
Stroll the Garden and see sculptures on display from Green River College. Visit the Master Gardener Growing Groceries Demonstration Garden. Hike down to Soos Creek and look for the many Eagle Scout projects along the way. There is something for everyone!
Admission is free, donations always welcome.
