Kent’s Lake Meridian Park features new ADA play equipment

The new playground that opened last year at Lake Meridian Park in Kent is being expanded to provide more opportunities for children of all abilities.

Kent Parks’ operations staff recently installed one of two new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible sand play features. A sand table and sand digger were purchased with a $3,930 grant from the Kent Sunrise Rotary Club and Rotary District 5030.

“Making the new playground as accessible as possible was the goal from the start,” said Parks Director Jeff Watling. “These two items were originally included in the playground design. But, unfortunately, they were cut in the final budget. We are grateful to Rotary for helping us meet the needs of the community.”

Lake Meridian Park is a 16-acre community park. According to parks staff, there were close to 80,000 visitors to the beach during the 2012 swim season, which ended on Labor Day.
