Bag Busters attempts to set world record, educates community about reusable bags

Bag Busters of Kent/Covington attempted to set the world record for the number of reusable bags made from T-Shirts in 48 hours on April 22-23.

Volunteers from the grass root organization, which working to get single-use plastic bags banned Kent and Covington, made 229 bags, short of the 359-bag record set by a group in Tacoma. Students at Kentwood High School also helped make bags during their lunch period.

During the two day event, which coincided with Earth Day, 125 people signed a pledge to use reusable bags.

“Hopefully, this gets the word out to use reusable bags and to have fun with it,” said Abbe Gloor, organizer of the Kent event.
