Bartell Drugs and Oberto partner to raise $25,000 for Seattle Children’s

Bartell Drugs, in partnership with Oberto Beef Jerky, joined forces in October to help raise awareness and funds for Seattle Children’s in support of its mission to provide hope, care and cures to help every child live the healthiest and most fulfilling life possible.

Executives and family members from Bartells and Oberto presented a $25,000 check to Seattle Children’s on Nov. 2 at Seattle’s Children’s in Seattle.

On hand to accept the check was Michele Smith, Seattle Children’s Hospital and Research Foundation board chair; Thomas Hernquist, CEO of Oberto; Evelyn Merrill, Bartell’s senior manager in charge of digital; Art Oberto, patriarch of Oberto and director emeritus; and Laura Oberto, daughter and board director.

“Bartell Drugs is so pleased to be able to assist Oberto in raising funds for this esteemed organization,” said Evelyn Merrill, who is also a fourth generation member of the Bartell family. “As locally-based companies, we value the role we can play to provide support for the most vulnerable members of our community – children affected by pediatric diseases.”

During October, for each bag of Oberto product purchased at any of Bartell’s 63 Western Washington store locations, a portion of the sale was contributed to the hospital.

Proceeds from the donation will benefit Seattle Children’s Uncompensated Care Fund, which ensures that all children in our region get the medical care they need, regardless of a family’s ability to pay. In 2015, Seattle Children’s uncompensated care program provided $111.8 million.
