Firefighters put out kitchen fire at Kent Valley Motel

Two people were displaced after a small kitchen fire late Friday morning at the Kent Valley Motel, 743 Central Ave. N.

Initial reports at about 11:47 a.m. upgraded the call to a working fire at a unit near the center of the single-story complex where firefighters saw smoke coming from the building. Firefighters quickly put out the fire.

Nobody was home at the unit and there were no injuries, according to the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority.

A fire investigator determined that the fire was caused by combustible materials left too close to a wall heater.
