State Patrol plans special emphasis patrol for South King County July 1-6

Washington State Patrol troopers will conduct a special emphasis patrol July 1-6 as part of their South County Metro Loop Project.

Troopers from several specialized units will concentrate their efforts on DUI, distracted and aggressive drivers on the NB/SB corridors of I-5 and SR 167, according to a State Patrol media release. The loop includes the connector freeways of I-405 and SR 18 making the “South County Metro Loop.”

Within the concentrated patrol emphasis area; an analysis determined that since 2010, there have been 25 preventable fatal collisions along with a high number of 911 emergency calls of reports of possible DUI’s, aggressive and erratically driven vehicles.

The effort is in support of the WSP’s goal of reducing statewide traffic fatalities to zero by the year 2030.
