Firefighters extinguish Kent homeless encampment fire

Firefighters extinguished a debris, trees and brush fire at a homeless encampment in the 24300 block of Pacific Highway South in Kent, south of Dick’s Drive-In.

Puget Sound Fire and South King Fire & Rescue responded at about 7:54 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 4 to the fire, according to Puget Sound Fire spokesperson Pat Pawlak. No people were on site when firefighters arrived.

The fire burned a 20-foot by 50-foot area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Pawlak said there has not been any other fires recently at the location.

Five fire department units and 13 personnel responded to the fire.
