Fourth Avenue was closed for a couple of hours in downtown Kent on Tuesday, Aug. 19 due to a natural gas leak.
A Puget Sound Energy (PSE) employee reported a broken and blowing gas line at 10:17 a.m. in the 500 block of West Cloudy Street near Fourth Avenue due to a third-party construction crew incident, according to an email from a PSE spokesperson.
Puget Sound Fire responded at about 10:18 a.m., according to an email from Puget Sound Fire spokesperson Pat Pawlak.
Crews were able to shut down the gas after it had been blowing for two hours around 12:28 p.m., according to PSE. Two customers lost access to gas temporarily for safety precautions.
No one was in danger and no one was evacuated while crews worked to access and fix the situation, according to PSE.
