Kent Fire Department investigators have been unable so far to determine the cause of the two-alarm fire that destroyed a carpet and carpet padding recycling warehouse.

The cause is undetermined at this time, according to a media release from the Kent Fire Department. The fire broke out Saturday, April 7 at the warehouse in the 700 block of Central Avenue North.

The large fire, fueled by large quantities of carpet and carpet padding for recycling, caused sections of the roof and walls to collapse.

Fire investigators were unable to enter the building until Thursday because of its instability. Construction crews had to shore up and stabilize walls before investigators could enter.

The building is a total loss as a result of the fire and collapse. No damage estimate was given.

There were no injuries in the fire. No employees were in the building when the fire started.
