Street improvement work begins on South 228 in Kent

The South 228th Street improvement project got the green light Tuesday at the Kent City Council meeting. The project will involve installing storm water pipe along South 228th Street between the Union Pacific railroad and 64th Avenue South. It is expected the work will take about three months and be completed by November.

Kent Police to set up substation in Panther Lake

Kent Police presence in the Panther Lake area is about to become more visible in the very near future. Following approval by the Kent City Council and Mayor Suzette Cooke’s signature, a full-service substation will be set up in Panther Lake at 10848 S.E. 208th St., on the East Hill. The station is expected to be operational this month.

King County prosecutor files juvenile prostitution felony charge against Kent man

The Kent Police Department released details on an investigation of a 22-year-old east Kent man, Quentin B. Jones, who is alleged to have been involved in juvenile prostitution. Jones was arrested April 17 and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed a charge for attempted promoting of commercial sex abuse of a minor.

Less blue on the FEMA food insurance rate map means good news for Kent

The blues are beginning to lift in Kent because of a map. Kent Public Works Director Tim LaPorte announced in a release April 5 the city will be using a FEMA or Federal Emergency Management Agency flood insurance rate map from May 16, 1995 rather than FEMA’s updated map.
