Kent neighborhood rallies for Relay for Life

Barb Drumheller lives in the Country Club Village neighborhood on Kent's East Hill where people know each other's names and help each other. Many have been neighbors since they bought new houses in the area in the 1990s. So after Drumheller lost her husband Ed Drumheller to cancer in 2006, the neighborhood decided to join for the first time in the Relay for Life of Kent, the annual June event that raises money for the American Cancer Society.

When Kent city officials want results from the Legislature in Olympia, they turn to Doug Levy, their paid lobbyist. Levy works as a lobbyist for Kent and five other cities under year-to-year contracts. He's getting paid $66,000 in 2011 by Kent to identify key issues, monitor legislation and assist with state funding for city projects.

Oregon man extradited to Kent to face Frankel murder charge

The Oregon man charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of a Kent city employee was extradited Thursday to Washington. William L. Phillip Jr., 30, of Portland, was booked for first-degree murder Thursday into the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, according to King County jail records. He is being held on $1 million bail.

E-Dawg has lined up numerous rappers for his singles-release party in Kent at 9 p.m. March 12 at Poppa's Pub, 510 Washington Ave. N. Kent City Council approves transportation impact fee changes

Kent business leaders came away pleased Tuesday with changes the Kent City Council unanimously adopted to its transportation-impact fees - especially a controversial part of the previous ordinance that would have automatically bumped the fees up every year for the next six years. As a result of the change, Council members now will evaluate whether to increase those fees each year, as opposed to the previous automatic increase.
