Kent businesses are wanted to participate in the 2nd Annual Kent Turkey Challenge to collect donations for the Kent Food Bank.

Businesses that want to participate must register by Friday, Oct. 5 by calling Kate Brown at Torklift Central at 253-720-1969.

The first Kent Turkey Challenge last year collected roughly 1,300 pounds of food and $10,000.

Torklift Central is hosting the event and will drop off donation boxes to participating businesses on Monday, Oct. 8.

Kent businesses are challenged to compete against each other to collect food and monetary donations. Donation boxes and related materials are supplied for free. Businesses have the option to sell paper turkeys for $10, which will also go to the food bank. Customers can write their name on the paper turkey and the businesses can hang them on the wall to represent their progress.

Several businesses are on board including Pacific Power Products, which agreed to help match their employee donations.

“Our goal this year is to reach 2,000 pounds of food and $12,000 for the Kent Food Bank,” said Torklift Central store manager Matt Lynch. “With the help of local schools and businesses, we hope to achieve this goal.”

Kent Food Bank has not received the funding they need to give families a memorable Thanksgiving dinner this year.

“The 1st Annual Kent Turkey Challenge was a huge success and the Kent Food Bank was able to feed 500 families,” said Torklift Central general manager Rick Shafer. “As a community, it is important that we collect as many donations possible to help out local families. It is amazing what the community can do when we all come together.”
