Ezee Fiber breaks ground in Kent for new internet system

Residents will have another option once company completes construction

Leaders of Ezee Fiber and the city of Kent recently met for a groundbreaking as the Texas-based company begins network construction of a new system that will give residents another internet option.

“We are eager to welcome Ezee Fiber to Kent,” Kent Mayor Dana Ralph said. “The addition of another internet service provider bringing high-speed fiber optic internet infrastructure to everyone in our city will provide a competitive option and elevate the overall market.”

Ezee Fiber is investing $400 million to expand fiber throughout Washington, with a regional headquarters in Kent and over 350 new jobs expected. The company initially announced in February its plans to come to Kent.

Members of the Kent City Council met April 16 with four leaders of Ezee Fiber, Pedro Checo, executive vice president of customer operations; Tim Williamson, vice president of marketing; Austin Christoffersen, director of government affairs; and Eddie Abreu, senior vice president and general manager of Operations for the Pacific Northwest region.

The company’s Kent office is at 22217 68th Ave. S. Ezee Fiber began in 2021 in Houston, Texas and has expanded to three cities in New Mexico, Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Rio Rancho, according to its website. The company plans to expand to Lakewood and other cities in the Pacific Northwest.

Installations for residential and business customers are anticipated to begin this spring, according to the city. The network will serve neighborhoods, apartments, schools, businesses, and municipal facilities, with speeds up to 8 Gig for residential customers.

“I can’t wait to see the impact this project has on our neighborhoods, schools and businesses,” Ralph said in her April 18 weekly email update.

Ralph signed a contract in January with the company for a limited license franchise agreement to deploy a fiber network throughout the city to help provide telecommunications services to residents and businesses. The franchise agreement allows Ezee Fiber to build in the right of way and provide service.

“I’m proud to bring Ezee Fiber’s award-winning multi-gig internet service to the greater Puget Sound region,” Ezee Fiber CEO Matt Marino said during the February announcement. “Our customers have honored us with a 4.9 Google rating and thousands of 5-star reviews. There are no contracts, fees, or data caps. Our service includes transparent pricing and friendly, local customer service. Long wait times, outdated technology, confusing bills, pricing gimmicks and frustrating customer service will be history for any new Ezee Fiber customers.”

The company hasn’t announced when residents will be able to get service. For more information, go to ezeefiber.com.
