Reber Ranch gets the blue ribbon

A pet store, feed store, grooming salon and veterinary office all rolled into one, Reber Ranch has been a staple of the Kent area for almost half a century (the store’s 40th anniversary is next year), with three generations of Rebers running the place and enough recognition to stack up against the store’s hay bales.

And the stack grows higher as Reber Ranch is amongst this year’s Best of Kent winner circle, winning “Best Pet Store”, “Best Pet Groomer” (with their second location, Pet Central) and a runner-up for “Best Veterinarian.”

Originally a feed store focused on horses and farm animals, Reber Ranch made big changes a decade ago.

“We were really focused on farm and feed and a third of our barn was all horse tack and saddles and everything like that,” said Scott Tenner, Reber Ranch’s Marketing and Merchandising Director. “And at that time, the ownership group decided that if we were going to move forward, we really needed to make some changes, because this is when the internet was really big and everybody was going online and buying things cheaper.”

Reber Ranch moved in the direction of pet services and expanding the store’s dog and cat inventory. The Ranch now has five veterinarians, eight exam rooms, two treatment rooms and the large grooming salon with professionals, as well as a DIY Dog Wash.

“This has been a big evolution for us moving into Pet Services,” Tenner said. “It’s a big part of our business, and we know that it’s been underserved.”

As far as pet retail, which includes rows and rows of food, toys, snacks, supplements, bedding, litter boxes and much more, Reber Ranch is as untouchable as it is unique, with top brands as well as items from local vendors. “I think we’re a destination. I mean, I think the one thing that we really strive to be is we want to be a destination for people and their pets,” Tenner said.

Other services offered at Reber Ranch are cat and rabbit adoptions, seasonal baby chicks, a free dog park and events.
