Two legendary names from R&B – KEM and the Isley Brothers will play Friday, April 13 in Kent as part of the “Smooth Grooves Music Fest.”
The concert is at 8 p.m. at the ShoWare Center.

With such hits as “Twist & Shout,” “Summer Breeze” and “It’s Your Thing,” the Isley Brothers make fans want to dance. The Grammy-award winning group formed in the early 1950s in Cincinnati, Ohio and today are considered one of the most important and influential groups of the last half-century. KEM’s love of music began as a child. Music saw him through the darkest moments in his life, took him to the top of the industry’s record charts, and earned him a record deal with Universal Motown Records.
A self-taught musician, KEM was born in Nashville and raised in Detroit. His hit single, “I Can’t Stop Loving You” was designated as Radio & Records’ and Billboard’s No. 1 Adult R&B Record of 2005.
His third studio album, “Intimacy,” was released in 2010 to critical acclaim and debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 list at No. 2 in the country, only behind Eminem’s “Recovery” album. The first single from the album, “Why Would You Stay” climbed to the No. 1 position on Urban AC Radio Charts, where it stayed for two straight weeks.
Today, KEM takes the opportunity to minister through music, sharing his life’s journey with his audience at every concert. He testifies openly about overcoming alcohol addiction and drug use and touts his sobriety since 1990 and gives honor and glory to God for his achievements.
