It’s a fun-filled flashback party
I Love the ’90s Tour comes to the Washington State Fair on Friday, Sept. 15, featuring some of the decade’s biggest hit makers, including Salt-N-Pepa, Vanilla Ice, Color Me Badd and Tone Loc.
Salt-N-Pepa helped change the face of hip hop, giving women across the globe a voice within their communities and the music industry and becoming the first female rappers to receive a Grammy Award.
Robert Matthew Van Winkle, best known by his stage name, Vanilla Ice, is an American rapper, with one of the biggest rap breakout hits, “Ice Ice Baby.” It was the first hip-hop single to top the Billboard charts, and has been credited with helping to diversify hip hop by introducing it to a mainstream white audience. In the early ’90s, To the Extreme became the fastest selling hip hop album of all time, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Color Me Badd is one of the top R&B vocal groups of all time. The group has sold 12 million records in the U.S. Its debut album, C.M.B, sold more than 6 million copies worldwide and became certified triple platinum in the country. They have three No. 1 singles and 17 top 20 singles. The group received the Favorite Single R&B/Soul trophy at the 19th annual American Music Awards and is a six-time Grammy nominee.
Loc soared from obscurity into pop stardom in 1989 when his hoarse voice and delivery made the song “Wild Thing” (using a sample from Van Halen’s “Jamie’s Cryin’”), a massive hit winning Grammys and countless other awards. The song Wild Thing was co-written by Marvin Young, better known as Young MC, as was the second single smash, “Funky Cold Medina.” The album “Loc-ed After Dark” became the second rap release ever to top the pop charts and one of the most popular of all time.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15. Tickets are $55, $45 and $30 and include fair gate admission. Tickets will be available on the fair website or by phone at 888-559-FAIR (3247) daily, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the state fair’s box office at 9th Avenue Southwest and Meridian Street on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Online and phone purchases are subject to standard processing fees. Tickets purchased on site will be charged a $2 per ticket service fee.
