Beat the heat: Why an early A/C check-up is key to staying cool

Washington HVAC companies were booked two months in advance last spring

Last spring, an abnormal heat wave took hold over many regions of the Pacific Northwest. Here in Washington, residents saw temperatures breaking records and heat advisories placed across the state.

On May 13, 2023, the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory extending from Saturday through Monday for much of the western parts of both Oregon and Washington state. It said the temperatures could raise the risk of heat-related illness, particularly for those who were dehydrated or didn’t have access to effective cooling.

In the year since, many folks have kept this in mind, including Matt and Dan Allred, owners of ALLRED HVAC in Washington.

With the unpredictability and volatility of weather conditions due to climate change, right now is the best time to pick up the phone and ask for help when it comes to air conditioning support.

“Last year by May we were already fully booked well into June. Across the state people were frantically looking for cooling support for their homes. To get ahead of the curve we want people to know that if they plan on getting any sort of repairs or installation of A/C it is best to do it now, early on, before we get hit with an unpredictable heatwave,” says Matt Allred

Although scorching weather is hard to predict, with the current offseason, local residents can expect a two-to-three-day wait for cooling systems to be serviced.

When the heat does come, preparation is essential, especially for those drastically impacted by the rising temperatures.

“Make sure to have your A/C system looked at ahead of use and always change your filters every three month, as a well-maintained system not only keeps you cool but also ensures your system operates longer – saving you from expensive repairs or replacement.”
