Comcast reports May 19 outage in Kent from vandalized cables

Service expected to be restored later in the day; second outage in a month

Some Xfinity and Comcast Business customers in Kent are experiencing an interruption to their services, which began Monday morning, May 19 when a Comcast cable line was damaged from vandalism, according to a company website post.

“Our dedicated network maintenance crews are working to replace the damaged lines, and service restoration is expected to happen later today (May 19),” according to the company statement. “Reconnecting your service is our top priority. Thank you for your patience and for being our customer.”

A customer posted on social media that they had lost service on Sunday, May 18, had it restored in the evening and then lost service again Monday.

Comcast has had previous outages in Kent caused by vandalism, including April 22 and Jan. 21 of this year and Nov. 30, 2023.

Comcast noted that when vandals intentionally cut cables, they cause network service outages, and it needs help from residents.

“If you see something suspicious, please report it to your local law enforcement agency,” according to Comcast.

Comcast said when such events happen, customers can always check for outages or fix common service issues at xfinity.com/status or the Xfinity app. Comcast Business customers may contact Service Status Center | Comcast Business.
