Kent officers chase down reckless driver | Police Blotter

Kent Police officers, State Patrol troopers and a King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter helped chase down a reckless driver on the East Hill.

The incident began at about 4:35 p.m. on March 18 in the 22700 block of 114th Place Southeast when an officer drove by a home known to police to be a drug house and where several stolen vehicles were recently recovered, according to the police report.

The officer saw a silver Honda Civic in the driveway with no rear license plate. A man was in the driver’s seat and a woman in the passenger seat. The officer pulled over, got out of his vehicle and walked up to the car.

As the officer approached the car, the driver sped away. A second Kent officer saw the Civic going at a high rate of speed westbound on Southeast 240th Street near 108th Avenue Southeast. The King County Guardian One helicopter assisted with the pursuit along with the State Patrol.

Police placed spikes in the road to help disable the vehicle in the 27200 block of 116th Avenue Southeast. An officer drew his weapon and ordered the driver out of the car. The driver put his hands up but didn’t get out. The officer put his gun away and pulled the driver out by his hair and shoulder to the ground to handcuff him.

Officers arrested the man for investigation of reckless driving and for a state Department of Corrections escape warrant. The Civic reportedly belonged to his mother.

Police cited the female passenger for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia after they saw a glass pipe on her lap, the type of pipe used to smoke narcotics. The woman claimed the pipe didn’t belong to her but fell on her lap during the chase.

Inmate caught with knives, drugs

Officers arrested a female inmate in the city jail, 1230 Central Ave. S., for investigation of possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance by a prisoner after finding her with two knives and a small amount of marijuana in a cell.

A corrections officer reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the woman’s cell and told the inmate she would need to be searched, according to the police report.

The inmate then revealed from inside her bra two folding knives and a foil package with marijuana inside. The woman had been brought to the jail the prior day. The report didn’t indicate how the woman might have been able to get the items inside the jail.

Man chokes woman

Police arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly choked a female friend on March 17 at a home in the 9600 block of South 206th Place.

The woman told officers she had lived at the house for a few weeks and went to pick up her property, according to the police report. The man reportedly became upset that she wanted to leave and attacked her by putting his hands around her throat.

The woman ran outside and screamed for help. A neighbor came to assist her.

The man told police the woman had stayed with him for about a month, moved out for two weeks and then came back for another month. He said they had sex a couple of times during their time living together. He denied he choked the woman. He said he put a bear hug on her and his arm slipped down to her throat.

Motorcyclist hits 100 mph

Officers arrested a man for investigation of reckless driving after he allegedly hit speeds of nearly 103 mph on his motorcycle while driving near the 10000 block of South 277th Street.

The driver apparently weaved in and out of traffic before taking an off-ramp to 108th Avenue Southeast, according to the police report. The driver stopped behind a few cars and a school bus before he sped around them.

The motorcyclist then put his left hand up and pulled over to the side of the road. An officer ordered the man at gunpoint to get off of the motorcycle. Police transported the man to the city jail.
