A sampling of Kent Police incidents Sept. 6 to 29:
Sept. 6
• Music store theft: Two suspects entered a music store and took a Yamaha professional alto saxophone valued at $3,984.
Sept. 8
• Naked male: A naked male was reported running across West Smith Street near the Ventana Apartments, 329 Ridgeview Dr., followed by a burglary alarm at Catholic Community Services, 1229 W. Smith St. An officer located the individual in the parking lot of a body shop at the intersection of West Smith Street and Washington Avenue N.
Sept. 10
• School shooter report: At approximately 2:30 p.m., an unknown male reporting party stated that he and other students were at Meridian Middle School, 23480 120th Ave. SE, and that a shooter was inside the school. The call was disconnected. Dispatch called back, and the male answered with “hello” before disconnecting again. Dispatch noted no signs of duress. The principal placed the school in lockdown due to a perceived imminent threat. Patrol units and school resource officers responded and cleared the building; no active shooter was located. The lockdown was lifted, and students were released.
• Street robbery: At approximately 10:03 p.m., patrol responded to a robbery in the 9800 block of SE 240th Street. The victim reported running out of gas and being approached by an unknown male who asked for money.
Sept. 12
• Shooting at intersection: At approximately 10:33 p.m., a caller reported a shooting at the intersection of West Smith Court and 64th Avenue S. A male was reported wounded and on the ground. The caller disconnected and did not wish to be a witness. Officers were unable to locate the victim at the dispatched address but found a firearm and a blood trail near an unit at the Arbor Chase Apartments, 1615 W. Smith St. A broken window and bullet impacts were observed at the same unit. Officers made an exigent entry but found no victims inside. Witnesses provided conflicting information about the victim’s direction of travel. The victim was eventually located near the A building at Ventana Apartments, 329 Ridgeview Dr., with injuries consistent with a shotgun blast to the face and torso. He was conscious and mildly responsive. Medics transported him to a hospital for further treatment.
Sept. 14
• Foot pursuit: An officer engaged in a foot pursuit of a 16-year-old suspect who was prowling and attempting to steal a vehicle at the Knol Apartments, 11239 SE 260th St. The officer apprehended the juvenile as he attempted to climb a fence.
• Drive-by shooting: At approximately 11:13 p.m., officers responded to the 13200 block of SE 264th Place regarding a drive-by shooting. The victim reported hearing several shots. Officers located bullet defects in the residence and recovered one bullet. This residence has been previously targeted.
• Attempted bicycle theft: Officers responded to a report of a known individual allegedly trespassing and attempting to steal a bicycle at 815 E. Tacoma St. Neighbors reported the incident based on Ring camera footage and secondhand information. While the case is pending finalization, it appears that a bicycle theft attempt occurred, which generated significant discussion in neighborhood forums.
Sept. 15
• Store robbery: At approximately 11:27 p.m., officers responded to a robbery at the ampm, 13130 Kent-Kangley Road. The initial suspect entered the store and attempted to steal alcohol. When confronted, the suspect returned the items and left. A short time later, the suspect returned with two others. After being locked out, the group forced entry into the store. The suspects made threats and stole several items before fleeing. Officers located and arrested the involved juveniles at a nearby bus stop.
Sept. 16
• Vehicular assault: At 2:31 a.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle collision into a tree near 84th Avenue South and South 212th St. While in route, dispatch advised CPR was being performed on a male passenger. Officers arrived and found the passenger with agonal breathing. Witnesses estimated the vehicle was traveling over 90 mph. The driver showed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking. Open containers were found in and around the vehicle. The rear of the car had separated due to the impact. The passenger was intubated and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with significant injuries. The driver was taken to Valley Medical Center in Renton and arrested for investigation of vehicular assault.
• Unconscious female: Officers were dispatched to the Fred Meyer on East Hill, 10201 SE 240th St., for a report of an unconscious female. Upon arrival, officers found the woman with fire personnel, along with her 18-month-old child. The woman admitted to using fentanyl near the child. She was medically cleared and booked into custody. Child Protective Services took custody of the infant.
Sept. 19
• Library disturbance: Officers responded to a disturbance at the Kent Library, 212 Second Ave. N., involving two individuals. A security guard intervened to stop the altercation. One of the individuals then turned on the security guard, resulting in visible injuries. Officers arrived quickly and took the suspect into custody.
• Campaign sign theft: Officers received a report forwarded by the police chief regarding the theft of a campaign sign belonging to a City Council member. The incident was captured on video, and a suspect was identified. On Sept. 20, a male matching the suspect’s description was seen acting erratically at a local business but left before officers arrived. That same day, the suspect was involved in a hit-and-run incident. Officers attempted to contact the individual multiple times, but he has not responded to calls or answered the door.
• Transit station incident: Officers responded to a request for assistance from the King County Sheriff’s Office at a transit station. Upon arrival, officers observed a deputy following a suspicious individual. Kent officers detained the subject, who was later taken into custody by the deputy. This incident highlights an increase in priority assistance requests from King County at transit locations, often with limited follow through.
Sept. 20
• Kent Station robbery: At approximately 8:04 p.m., officers responded to a robbery at Kent Station shopping center. The reporting party stated several individuals had approached her nephew in an alley near the movie theater. One suspect restrained the victim while others took his belongings. Officers located and arrested several of the suspects at the scene.
Sept. 22
• Assault with gun: Officers responded to a report of an assault involving a firearm at the Sunset Motel, 25006 Pacific Highway S. The suspect was located and taken into custody at a nearby location. A search warrant was executed, and a gun was recovered from the room. The suspect was booked into custody.
Sept. 23
• Arson fire: At approximately 3:31 p.m., officers and fire personnel responded to a report of arson at All Pro Building Maintenance, 300 First Ave. S.. Upon arrival, officers met with a fire investigator who had already reviewed surveillance footage. The video showed a suspect starting a fire against the exterior of the building. The fire was noticed and extinguished by an employee before it could spread further. The suspect fled the scene.
Sept. 25
• Domino’s burglary: At approximately 9:34 a.m., officers responded to a commercial burglary that had occurred overnight at Domino’s Pizza, 26000 104th Ave. SE. The front door glass had been broken, and the safe from the manager’s office was missing. Surveillance footage showed two individuals breaking into the store.
Sept. 28
• Total Reclaim theft: At approximately 7:37 a.m., officers responded to a theft in progress at Total Reclaim, 7000 S. 220th S. Live surveillance footage showed a suspect attempting to steal an HVAC unit from a semi-trailer. Officers located the suspect as they were leaving the scene. The suspect admitted to trying to steal items to sell for scrap.
• Church burglary: Officers responded to a burglary at Northwest House of Prayer, 25628 101st Ave. SE, where pressure washers and tools had been stolen overnight from a maintenance shed. Later that day, church members located an individual attempting to sell the stolen items and confronted them. The suspect fled and tried to hide on the roof of the Asian Pacific Market. Officers surrounded the area, retrieved a ladder from fire personnel, and safely took the suspect into custody. The stolen pressure washers were recovered.
Sept. 29
• Street robbery: At approximately 11:47 p.m., officers responded to a robbery in the 10800 block of Southeast 211th Place. The victim had returned home from a nearby convenience store when several individuals confronted them. Although the victim did not understand what was said, they were physically assaulted and sustained a stab wound. The suspects took the victim’s wallet before fleeing the scene.
