Man dies after shooting in Kent on King County Metro bus

A 29-year-old man died in Kent after a shooting on a King County Metro bus Friday afternoon, Feb. 16.

Officers responded at about 1 p.m. to a 911 call about a shooting that had occurred on a Metro bus while it was traveling through Kent, according to a Feb. 16 Kent Police news release. The bus had stopped in the 200 block of Central Avenue South.

Officers found a 29-year-old man, residence unknown, had exited the bus with a gunshot wound. Officers and Puget Sound Fire personnel proceeded with lifesaving efforts, but the man died at the scene, according to police.

Officers simultaneously located a 35 year-old man, residence unknown, with minor injuries claiming to have been assaulted by the deceased man, according to police. Initial information indicates that prior to being shot, the deceased male got onto the Metro bus and engaged in an altercation with the 35 year-old male. It is believed that the 35 year-old man shot the deceased once during the fight. The 35- year-old male is cooperating with investigators.

Kent detectives responded to the scene and are investigating the sequence of events that led to this fatal shooting. This incident was contained to the moving bus and no other injuries have been reported. The relationship between the two men involved is unknown at this time.
