Medical examiner identifies Kent man, woman shot at apartment complex

Gary Lee Winston, 34, and Migna Elizabeth Kennebrew, 46, killed July 14; suspect in custody

Gary Lee Winston, 34, and Migna Elizabeth Kennebrew, 46, each of Kent, were identified as the man and woman fatally shot July 14 at a Kent apartment complex.

Winston died of multiple gunshot wounds and Kennebrew died of a gunshot wound of the neck, according to a July 17 report by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, which ruled each death as homicide.

Kent Police arrested a 51-year-old Kent man July 16 for investigation of fatally shooting Winston and Kennebrew. He reportedly has an extensive criminaly history and was booked into the King County jail on unrelated charges. Kent detectives expect in the coming days to file the case with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review and charges of homicide, according to police.

Officers responded at about 8:37 p.m. to reports of an argument at an apartment complex in the 22400 block of Benson Road SE, according to a July 15 Kent Police news release. Witnesses also reported hearing gunshots and seeing a man lying on the ground outside.

Upon arrival, officers found Winston who appeared to have been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. After securing the area, officers made contact at an apartment believed to be involved in the incident, according to police. They discovered Kennebrew who also had been shot. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Nobody else was in the apartment and there were no other known victims.
