Overnight lane striping on a newly paved section of State Route 99 (aka Pacific Highway South) in SeaTac, Des Moines and Kent will begin Saturday, Aug. 16, and last for roughly three weeks.
Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close two lanes on SR 99 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Saturday nights through Friday mornings through early September between South 200th Street in SeaTac and SR 516 in Kent/Des Moines, according to an Aug. 14 WSDOT email.
The lane closures will shift nightly along both directions of SR 99 as striping crews make progress on the highway.
The following closures also are planned from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning:
• Tuesday, Aug. 19: Northbound SR 99 will close between South 216th and 208th streets in SeaTac.
• Saturday, Aug. 23, through Monday, Aug. 25: Both directions of SR 516 will close at the intersection with SR 99 in Des Moines/Kent.
Signed detours will guide people around construction during the overnight highway closures. Striping work requires dry weather and closures could be rescheduled due to rain.
Since January, crews have repaved 2 miles of SR 99 between South 200th Street and SR 516 and upgraded more than 30 sidewalk ramps to modern Americans with Disabilities Act standards. The cost of the project is $8.3 million, according to WSDOT.
