It looks like it’ll be a showdown between Sharn Shoker and either Andy Song or Logan Evans for Kent City Council Position No. 6.
Shoker has 32.4% (3,050 votes) to lead the seven-candidate race, according to King County Election results released Tuesday night, Aug. 5. Song is next with 18.4% (1,731 votes) followed by Evans with 16.9% (1,588 votes). Jamie Lee is fourth with 12.3% (1,155 votes).
The other candidates and their results are Tod Oyefeso, 10.7% (1,008 votes); RoseLynne P McCarter, 4.5% (419 votes); and Starre Quiñones 4.2% (398 votes).
The two candidates with the most votes on the primary ballot will advance to the Nov. 4 general election. Ballots will be counted each weekday with the election certified Aug. 19.
The winner in November will replace Brenda Fincher, who decided not to seek reelection after 12 years in office.
Shoker’s campaign has raised $54,412 and spent $48,282, according to the state Public Disclosure Commission website on Aug. 5. Evans had the next highest amount with $8,566 raised and $5,428 spent. Song, a current Kent School Board member, is one of three candidates along with McCarter and Quifinones, who didn’t raise any significant amount of money.
Shoker has a long list of endorsements from current and former local elected officials, including Fincher, Kent City Councilmember John Boyd, former Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke, former state Sen. Karen Keiser, former state Sen. Mona Das and state Reps. Debra Entenman and Mia Gregerson. Keiser, Das, Entenman and Gregerson are Democrats.
Song’s local elected official endorsements include Dave Upthegrove, state lands commissioner and former King County Council member from Des Moines; Girmay Zahilay, King County Council member; Donald Cook, Kent School Board member; and Chris Reykdal, state superintendent of education.
Evans and Lee did not list endorsements on their election websites.
