Two men, ages 59 and 23, were injured when their small plane crashed Saturday afternoon, Jan. 7, shortly after takeoff from Auburn Municipal Airport, into the roof of a storage unit in the 1700 block of Central Avenue South in Kent.
Puget Sound Fire responded at about 1:19 p.m. and used ladders to remove the men from the plane, according to media reports. Paramedics transported the men to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where both were conscious and being treated for injuries, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The plane crashed at Affordable Self Storage, 1721 Central Ave. S. The facility is just north of South 266th Street.
The Challenger II fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft that seats two, took off at 1:13 p.m. from Auburn, according to flightaware.com. It flew about 6 minutes before crashing. Auburn Municipal Airport is at 2143 E St. NE, pretty much exactly south of the storage units.
A Spokane man owns the plane, according to FlightWare.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the crash.
