A drone assisted Auburn Police officers in arresting a suspect in a domestic violence crime who ended up on a roof.
According to an Auburn Police Department (APD), on Nov. 30, officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the 1500 block of 29th Street SE after a report that a person inside a home was breaking items and had grabbed a knife. According to APD, when officers arrived at the scene, they learned that the person breaking items had fled on foot.
“K9 teams began a track to locate the suspect. To assist, an officer deployed an unmanned aircraft system (UAS),” according to APD. “The drone quickly located the individual on the roof of a nearby home.”
According to APD, officers gave verbal commands, the suspect complied, and he climbed off the roof, and officers took the suspect into custody. APD stated that officers established probable cause for third-degree domestic violence malicious mischief, and exposing a minor to domestic violence.
