State Patrol seeks witnesses to I-5 shooting near Southcenter

Several bullets fired at driver from passenger in nearby car; nobody hurt

The Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses to a drive-by shooting at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20 along northbound Interstate 5 in the Southcenter mall area.

A man called 911 to report he had been shot at, according to a June 21 State Patrol press release. Troopers contacted the man who told them the right front passenger of a vehicle driving recklessly fired several shots at his vehicle.

The suspect vehicle was described as a white 2013 to 2015 Chevrolet Malibu or Impala with black rims and dark tinted windows, according to the State Patrol.

The man described the suspect as a light-skinned Black male with a short Afro and possible 19 to 22 years old. The driver of the vehicle was a Black woman around the same age. There also was another male in the back seat of the vehicle.

The man who called 911 was driving a black 2019 Mercedes S560 sedan. He was not injured. Troopers located several bullet holes and found one bullet in the vehicle.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information about the suspect or suspect vehicle is asked to contact Detective Tim Hanson at tim.hanson@wsp.wa.gov.
