Teen dies in fatal Renton shooting

A 16-year-old suspect was arrested in April 14 incident

A 15-year-old boy died Sunday, April 14, following a shooting in Renton the previous day involving a second teenage boy.

Renton Police arrested a 16-year-old boy on April 13 after responding, shortly after 4 p.m., to a shooting in the 600 block of Camas Avenue Northeast. According to the department, the 16-year-old boy reported to dispatch that he had shot someone.

Arriving officers located a 15-year-old boy who had been shot. First responders transported him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries, according to the department.

The Renton Police Department announced the following day, April 14, that the 15-year-old boy had died.

The King County Superior Court found probable cause for second-degree manslaughter and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm against the 16-year-old boy, according to Casey McNerthney, director of communications for the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The King County Superior Court ordered the teenager be held in juvenile detention at his first appearance hearing on Monday, April 15, per request by the prosecutors. The 16-year-old boy’s defense asked for his release.

Prosecutors have contacted the Renton Police Department and anticipate receiving a case referral from police investigators by April 17 for a rush-file charging decision, according to McNerthney.
