Marilyn Baden Soderstrom, age 80, went to join her parents and sister in heaven on January 2, 2020 after complications of surgery. Marilyn grew up in Kent, Washington and graduated from Kent Meridian High School in 1957. She spent many years as a flight attendant for various airlines, traveling to the far reaches of the world.
During her travels, she met her future husband, Frederick “Rick” Soderstrom. They were married on November 11, 1967 in Kent. Rick was employed by the DuPont Corporation which required many transfers – they lived in Mississippi, Delaware, Los Angeles, Houston, Sydney, Australia, Kent, Philadelphia and finally in Texas. Their two children, Derek & Kirsten were born during these many moves. As a family they continued travels to many distant locales.
Marilyn & Rick later divorced and Marilyn continued living in Dallas. She went back to work in the airline industry for American Airlines. She was eventually able to transfer to the American base in Seattle. Marilyn enjoyed being near her parents and sisters for many years and we have great memories of family get togethers. Although her children remained in the Dallas area, they were able to visit often. Marilyn also traveled with her many airline friends, her sister Sharon & brother-in-law, Steve, and her kids. Marilyn retired from American in May of 2002 but continued her lifelong love of travel, visiting many countries around the world.
Due to health issues, Marilyn returned to the Dallas area to be near her children in 2012. She loved the time she had with Derek & Kirsten and Derek’s daughter, Madison. She enjoyed going to Maddie’s sports events, dining out and traveling as she was able. Watching baseball and football, especially as a fan of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks was something she loved.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth & William Baden and sister, Sydney (Walsh) Boxx. She is survived by her children Derek and Kirsten Soderstrom, granddaughter Madison; sisters Sharon Baden and Terrie (Baden) Casey; nieces Maureen Herth, Lorraine Walsh, Regan Casey and nephew Patrick Casey; great-nieces Sydney Walsh, Malia Spearman, Alicia Lopez, great-nephew Tyler Wilkening and great-great nephew Kaleb lves.
Marilyn will be greatly missed by all who loved her. She was a wonderful mom, daughter, sister, grandmother and aunt to us. A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent, Washington at a date to be determined. Contact Terrie Casey via email at ttcasey9@msn.com for any further information.
