The Kent Reporter Athletes of the Week for Sept. 26 are from Kentlake High School; Robert Hyslop (So.) cross country and Charlotte Coberly (Sr.) cross country.
What do you value in your sport or about your team?
Coberly: We support each other no matter the situation and cream an encouraging, fun environment.
Hyslop: The challenge and the camaraderie.
What have you learned from your sport that you can take with you throughout your life/future?
Coberly:Cross country has taught me perseverance and confidence through my training and from my coaches.
Hyslop:To push myself through hard things and always try as hard as I can to get results.
What do you do when you aren’t motivated and what helps you stay motivated?
Coberly: I have a great support system in my coaches and teammates. I have learned to focus on the goals ahead of me.
Hyslop:I spend time with the people who motivate me and I’m reminded of my motivations.
Do you have a favorite pre-game meal?
Coberly: Pasta!
Hyslop:Not really.
What advice would you give to a teammate that is struggling?
Coberly: To remember that they have put in work for their accomplishments and that they can still meet goals through perseverance.
Hyslop:Do it for yourself. Remember that great things come from hard work, even if it’s not apparent.
From the sidelines:
Coberly: Charlotte loves to run and she shares that love with her teammates by encouraging others, being welcoming to teammates and being excited every day at practice. She has worked hard to overcome obstacles and is determined and focused in the new season. She is great captain and her coaches are so proud of her.
Hyslop: Robert has been working hard to be one of our top runners this season. His work ethic inspires others to work hard. The coaches appreciate his example and look forward to watching him race.
