The Kent Reporter athletes of the week for the week of Nov. 2 are from Kentlake; Mikey Hanis (Sr.) cross country, Kaia Bott (Sr.) cheer.

What do you value in your sport or about your team?

Hanis: I value a sense of companionship and support from my teammates. I also value being able to support them.

Bott: The friendships and love we have for each other and the hard work everyone puts in to make our team amazing.

What have you learned from your sport that you can take with you throughout your life/future?

Hanis: I have learned that hard work pays off.

Bott: I have learned to be a strong leader and help others in their time of need.

What do you do when you aren’t motivated and what helps you stay motivated?

Hanis: I think about my goals and try to get as close to them as possible.

Bott:I rest and fuel my body and remind myself what I am here to do.

Do you have a favorite pre-game meal?

Hanis: My favorite pre-meet meal are the cross country team dinners.

Bott: A Starbucks strawberry acai lemonade

What advice would you give to a teammate that is struggling?

Hanis: The advice I would give a teammate is to stay motivated and don’t get stuck in your own head.

Bott: You are doing what you love, keep pushing yourself, it is worth it and you are doing a good job.

From the sidelines:

Hanis: Mikey shows up with a good attitude every day. He is really great at executing the workout. He works hard everyday to improve his running times. He is always supporting his teammates and is a role model for our younger team members.

Bott: As a dedicated team member for 4 years and captain for 2 years, Kaia embodies the spirit, teamwork, and determination that makes our team great. From leading the crowd on the sidelines and competition mat, to supporting each team member behind the scenes, Kaia consistently brings her passion and positivity to everything she does. These incredible qualities helped her lead the team to their first State Title in 2024! Her commitment to academics, athletics, and her job, shows her excellent time management and work ethic. We are so proud to celebrate Kaia and her accomplishments and recommend her for Athlete of the Week!
